About the book
Emelina and Addison meet through Junior Detective School and begin with little in common. Addison would rather stay inside to read and write stories. Emelina prefers jogging, skating, and almost any activity that keeps her moving outdoors. Even their food choices divide them: Emelina favors healthy food, while Addison has a sweet tooth. When a mystery gives them a reason to work together, the two children and Emelina's dog must look past those differences. Solving the case requires cooperation, and the time they spend together changes how they understand one another. Over several weeks, disagreement gives way to friendship. The story does not ask either child to become more like the other. Instead, they learn that different habits and interests do not prevent people from trusting each other or solving a problem together. The mystery supplies the task; their developing friendship gives the story its lasting point.
