To Life: A Young Holocaust Survivor's Journey to Freedom
A child loses her family in occupied Poland and survives with one purpose: finding her sister Dora again.
About the book
Sala Lewis is ten years old when German forces come for her family in Sosnowicz, Poland. Her world disappears one person at a time. Her brothers are sent to work camps. A sister-in-law leaves to get milk and never returns. Sala sees her parents once more through a schoolyard window before they vanish.
Left alone, she hides where she can and relies on instinct and quick thinking to stay alive. Finding her sister Dora remains her reason to survive. Later, Sala builds a life as a mother and model, becomes a United States citizen, and continues telling people what she witnessed. The book records the family taken from her and the life she fought to make afterward.
